WHAT WE DO
Each month we buy and collect donated food, pack it and distribute it to over 120 orphans. We give out 160 food bags on monthly basis.
We collect, sort and distribute good second hand or new clothing to the orphans we support, the destitutes and needy families in the valley.
Many orphans we support live in poor, rundown conditions. Homes are one or two roomed mud and stick dwellings with 3-4 people per room and a number of people per bed.
Many orphans have little input from caring adults and few good role models. We train and equip children and teenagers, guiding them in leading moral and upright lives through various programs such as:
- Kids club
We run a number of very basic, nurse run, on site, clinics which offer medical care to orphans and needy children.
We pay school fees and buy uniforms for approximately 100 - 120 orphans at a cost of around R50,000-00 - R60,000 per year.
Many orphans and poor children are raped and abused. We estimate 80% of the girls we support have either been raped, molested or experienced incest. Many fathers take their daughters as sexual partners when their wife dies, normally of AIDS. When girls expose this injustice they place themselves at risk of being murdered to prevent them bearing witness.
Our Hillcrest place of safety and refuge for orphans, abused teenagers and needy people is now fully functional. It sleeps around 18 people.
We are looking for corporate sponsorship for our Springside place of safety and refuge, situated in 4 springside road in Hillcrest. Here we care for teenagers who have been raped, abused or chased out of their homes, it is a vital ministry, that often saves lives.
The monthly running costs are around R9000-00 ($1125-00) a month. |
